By-Election 2010: Science Faculty Candidate: Jack Siu

Science Faculty Representative Candidate: Jack Siu

By striving for the position of Science Faculty Representative, I seek to bring about a fuller and more rewarding university experience to all science students. The key areas in which I wish to focus on are listed below. As a Faculty Representative I would exert myself:

  1. To continue the work of previous Faculty Representatives in building a sense of community within the Faculty of Science. Work on the creation of an intrafaculty event to rival all others on campus and to bolster faculty pride; thereby encouraging students of different departments to come together as one community.
  2. To enhance the education of all science students both in and out of their regular classes. Giving more support for peer-to-peer learning opportunities such as SI sessions. And to consider a peer-to-peer program to help science students raise the quality of their lab reports.
  3. To bring to light the hands-on learning opportunities in our faculty. This includes facilitating communication between professors and students to help undergraduates find research opportunities. Help build experiences which will add to any scientist's resume.
  4. To shift the focus of the university onto the various achievements of the students in the Faculty of Science, fostering an environment for student leaders to be recognized.
  5. To take a down to earth approach in connecting with students, using various forms of communication to reach out to individual students and encourage them to speak up and suggest their own improvements. Taking a greater responsibility in communicating between the Student Union and individual students in our faculty would be a priority.
  6. To compromise and work with my fellow Science Faculty Representative candidates to fulfill the promises made by both parties.
