Want to Become a Tutor?
Aside from providing a valuable service to students, tutors gain much in return. You will have the opportunity to:

The SU is always looking for those exceptional campus community individuals who are subject matter experts and willing to share that expertise with a student needing some support.
The Students’ Union Tutor Registry accepts applications on an ongoing basis throughout the year. Prospective tutors can apply to tutor for any course they have mastered. To be accepted as a tutor, you must:
- be at least a second year.
- obtain an A- or better in the courses you wish to tutor.
- maintain a minimum overall 3.0 GPA.
- submit an official UofC transcript to the tutor registry administrator.
GENERAL QUESTIONS
What is the tutor registry service?
The Students’ Union Tutor Registry (SUTR) is an online searchable database of qualified university students and alumni offering tutoring services in a wide range of subjects.
You must be a second year student or above; obtain an A- or better in the courses you wish to tutor and maintain a minimum overall 3.0 GPA. The Students’ Union Tutor Registry standards are taken seriously and all applicants, regardless of their degree level are required to provide documentation that clearly shows that you have achieved a level of mastery in the course(s) you wish to tutor.
Who do I contact if I have questions or concerns?
Email the Students’ Union Tutor Registry administrator at: tutor@su.ucalgary.ca.
Will the Students’ Union Tutor Registry ever contact me?
Yes. We will email you with important updates to the registry or other information.
What do I do if my contact changes?
If your contact information changes during the year please contact the SUTR administrator with your updated contact information.
What do I do if I cannot tutor anymore?
Contact the SUTR administrator as soon as possible and request that your account is changed to “Inactive” status.
Do I have to tutor every tutee that contacts me?
No, we understand that you are also a student. There will be times when you are unable to accept tutoring jobs. However, if you cannot accept any tutoring jobs you should consider changing your account to “Inactive” status for a period of time.
How do I add or change a course to my tutor account?
Please provide an updated transcript to the Students’ Union office. The SUTR administrator will update your profile once the documentation provided clearly shows that you have achieved the requirements for a the course you wish to tutor. To drop a course please contact the SUTR administrator with your updated course information.
How do I arrange for payments for my tutoring services?
You are responsible for arranging payments for your services. Ensure you establish a system of payment to ensure smooth transactions among you and your tutees. The Students’ Union will not will not provide mediation, direction or legal services for payment disputes.
How often do I have to meet with a tutee?
This is to be negotiated between you and the tutee. It will depend on how much help the tutee will need and how often you are both able to meet.
What if there is a problem?
If you feel that you are unable to provide adequate support for your tutee, encourage your tutee to seek help from other resources on campus such as the Writing Support Services, Student Success Centre Seminars. The SUTR administrator can provide information on other campus resources.
