Inaugural Scholarship Winners Announced
Two local Alberta/Haskayne Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) students working at Calgary not-for-profit organizations will be benefiting from a $20,000 bursary this year. The Haskayne School of Business and the Students’ Union at the University of Calgary have partnered on a unique opportunity to students in their second year of the Alberta/Haskayne Executive MBA program who are currently employed in the not-for-profit sector in Alberta.
Congratulations to this year’s winners, Angela Koal and Rick Filipovic. Koal works for the Alberta New Home Warranty Program (ANHWP), a leading provider of residential home warranty services to the new home building industry. As a member of the senior management team at ANHWP, Koal said “I believe that the leadership skills I am learning have already been paying off. Looking at things in new ways, and applying new skills will help me to provide better financial analysis, risk management, and people management.”
Filipovic, who works for the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO), adds “The structure of the EMBA program is very beneficial to the AESO as I experience very little down time and am able to remain fully available and responsible for executing my duties to the organization.” The AESO facilitates Alberta’s competitive wholesale electricity market to ensure a fair, open and efficient market for the exchange of electric energy in Alberta.
The Alberta/Haskayne Executive MBA/Students’ Union Scholarship is funded through a rebate on the catering services provided to the Haskayne School of Business by the MacEwan Conference and Event Centre at the University of Calgary (operated by the Students’ Union). The accumulated rebate over the past two years resulted in two scholarships, valued at $10,000 each, awarded to Koal and Filipovic.
