Trash Talk Photo Contest: Submit and WIN

Submit a Photo And You Can Win Cash!

The Students’ Union and the SU Sustainability Board are offering a $250 1st Prize and a $100 2nd Prize for great photos in each of these categories:

  1. Capture an unsustainable activity on campus.
  2. Capture a sustainable activity on campus.

Submit your photos (maximum of three) to trashtalk@su.ucalgary.ca by the Friday, March 18 deadline with your name and contact information and be sure to include a few lines explaining your shots. Make sure you submit your photos no smaller than 2MB and no larger than 8MB, JPEG format, highest quality (i.e no compression.) Image filenames must have your name, category, and sequence number if you are entering more than one image in a category.

If you are having trouble attaching large files to your email then you can also use the YouSendIt service to submit images.

Submission Requirements

Below are the entry requirements:

  1. Image format must be JPEG.
  2. Compression must be minimal on the final JPEG file. This is usually indicated as HIGHEST QUALITY, FINE, or SUPERFINE on your camera or image editing software.
  3. Image filenames must contain your full name, category, and sequence number if submitting more than one photo in a category. e.g. AlanSmithee-UNSUSTAINABLE-01.jpg
  4. All submissions must include your full name, a valid email address, and phone number. All email and YouSendIt submission SUBJECT lines must contain the text "TrashTalk Photo Contest." Anything close enough will do but lets keep it simple.
  5. You can submit a total of three images across the two categories. If an entrant submits more than three images then only last three images received, by email timestamp, shall be considered by the judges. Abuse of image submissions will disqualify an entrant.
  6. If you are shooting in a RAW format then saving the image in JPEG format then we suspect you will be using an image editing software program to output the final JPEG. Guideline #2 applies for this process as well.
  7. Final image will be processed by our staff down to 1280x1024 pixels at 72ppi. Images received smaller than this will not be considered by the judges.

If you are shooting with an SLR then we suspect you know what you're doing and expect you can submit the required file with minimal supervision.
