Results! 2011 General Election

After weeks of campaigning and candidate forums, undergraduate students at the University of Calgary have elected a new slate of student leaders for 2011-2012.

Dylan Jones is the new President-elect, capturing 57% per cent of votes. Dylan has served two years as a Students’ Union Event Commissioner and was the recipient of a 2010 Student Legislative Council Award.

The new President will be joined by Ola Mohajer as VP Academic; Matt McMillan as VP External; Patrick Straw as VP Operations and Finance and Matt Diteljan as VP Student Life to form the Executive team.

The Student Legislative Council will also include a group of new Faculty Representatives listed below. The number of faculty representatives sitting on SLC corresponds with the number of students in a given faculty.

James Delaney, current SU VP Operations and Finance will represent undergrad students on the Board of Governors, the highest governing body of the University.

Jennifer Abbott, current VP Student Life and Courtney Tanaka were acclaimed as the new SU representatives to the University Senate.

This new team of capable young leaders will be engaged over the summer months in building directions and program plans to take the SU into the 2011 fall semester.

This year’s voter turn out was over 20% per cent of eligible student voters with over 5000 students casting a ballot, a significant increase from the previous year. Newly elected officials will be sworn into office on May 1, 2010 at the annual Students’ Union Colour Night ceremony.
