What is Frostbite?
Frostbite is the University of Calgary’s official winter games, January 22 to January 26. It is brought to you by the SU in partnership with the Leadership and Student Engagement office. Throughout the course of a week, teams of 8 to 10 students will compete in a series of outdoor and indoor challenges campus wide to earn points for sweet prizes and for serious bragging rights on campus. The team who earns the most points at the end of the week will win the coveted Frostbite Cup and a winter ski vacation for the team.
Frostbite will test your might, mind and mania. Each challenge requires a different number of team members, and each member must participate and complete at least one challenge. Teams are required to compete in all challenges, and will receive bonus points for team spirit while participating.
Teams are awarded points depending on how they do and place in each event. Teams will also be awarded bonus points throughout the week by staff by showing positive spirit, enthusiasm, and goodwill towards other teams. Bribery is also a fair form of gaining extra points, but please make sure to follow the bribing guidelines in the registration package.
Who can participate?
The challenge is open to undergraduate or graduate students at the U of C. Build your teams through friends, roommates, classmates, club members or floormates… whatever! There are virtually no restrictions on how you assemble your team. We can only take a limited number of teams so be quick and get registered!
How do I register a team?
Teams must register by the cutoff date to compete in Frostbite. Teams are encouraged to be comprised of a mix of genders, however no male/female ratio will be enforced. Challenges are not gender-specific, as one’s gender will not be a success factor during competition.
Teams can use the registration form on this page as a tool, however each person must be registered online prior to the cut off date. Teams will also be required to pay a registration fee when they register online.
How much does it cost?
All Frostbite teams must pay a registration fee of $100 when they register. Cash, cheque (made payable to “Students’ Union”) or credit cards are accepted and can be processed in the SU Main office (MacEwan Student Centre Rm. 251.)
Other than the fantastic grand prize (and the many other prizes and surprises that participants will enjoy throughout the week), Frostbite fosters school spirit and connection when you return from your break and are getting resettled into the university community.
