What is Frostbite?

Frostbite is the Students’ Union’s official winter games, January 28 to February 1. It is brought to you by the SU in partnership with the Leadership and Student Engagement office. Throughout the course of a week, teams of 8 to 10 students will compete in a series of outdoor and indoor challenges campus wide to earn points for sweet prizes and for serious bragging rights on campus. The team who earns the most points at the end of the week will win the coveted Frostbite Cup and a winter ski vacation for the team.

Frostbite will test your might, mind and mania. Each challenge requires a different number of team members, and each member must participate and complete at least one challenge. Teams are required to compete in all challenges and can receive bonus points for team spirit, bringing extra fans, and more. Sign up a team from your faculty, your floor, or your friends by December 14, 2018!

Anyone. Challenges are not gender-specific, and teams are encouraged to be as diverse as possible! Frostbite is open to undergraduate students at UCalgary. Build your teams through friends, roommates, faculty, classmates, club members or floormates! There are virtually no restrictions on how you assemble your team. We can only take a limited number of teams so be quick and get registered!

Teams must complete the registration package in the team handbook (below) by the cutoff date to compete in Frostbite. All team members must have signed a waiver. Teams will also be required to pay a registration fee when they register.

All Frostbite teams must pay a registration fee of $100 when they register. Cash, cheque (made payable to “Students’ Union”) or credit cards are accepted and can be processed in the SU main office (MacEwan Student Centre 251.)

Teams are awarded points depending on how well they do in each event. Each challenge is unique, and a scoring guide is included in the team handbook.

Bonus points will also be awarded throughout the week for showing positive spirit, enthusiasm, and goodwill towards other teams, in addition to minute-to-win-it games, bringing fans to cheer you on, and more!

Other than the fantastic grand prize (and the many other prizes and surprises that participants will enjoy throughout the week), Frostbite fosters school spirit and connection when you return from your break and are getting resettled into the university community.

In short: IT’S FUN!
