April 5, 2017  |   Found in Advocacy // Student Life

Hey U of C– This is your U of C Students’ Union President with a few thoughts before we finish out what has been a fantastic year. I know it’s a busy time of the year for all of us as we approach the end of the term, but there are just a couple final messages and information we want to get to you before exams begin:

BSD

Now, in case you haven’t heard – this year Bermuda Shorts Day is on Wednesday, April 12. As you know, you need to get a wristband in advance to get in. Wristbands are available this Thursday and Friday, April 6-7, and next week on Monday and Tuesday, April 10-11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. sharp in the North Courtyard of MacEwan Student Centre. Remember to bring your student ID and government-issued photo ID (you will also need these of the day of the event). Wristbands will NOT be available on Apr. 12. The countdown is on! See you in lot 32 – gates open at 11:30 a.m. Be sure to get there early, the first 500 people through the gates get free SU sunglasses! Check out performances by Smalltown DJs, Port Juvee, Ricca Razor Sharp, Beach Season and Burchill. For more information on BSD go to our BSD webpage: https://www.su.ucalgary.ca/bsd/

Be a Smart Drinker (BSD)

A key focus of BSD this year is the safety of all who participate. If you do plan to drink, please Be a Smart Drinker and remember to plan your day, which includes planning a safe way to get home – whether it’s designated drivers, Calgary Transit, or taxi cabs that will be available near the BSD site. We are pleased to partner with Calgary Police Services, Emergency Medical Services, and a large contingent of campus security personnel to ensure a safe environment for this year-end celebration. Remember your university ID and use your U-Pass to ride Calgary Transit.

Study Space

We’re opening up space in MacHall for study space to make sure you can crush your exams. Weekdays from April 17-26, we’ve designated That Empty Space as That Empty STUDY Space – just for you. It’s a quiet place where you can come anytime during the weekdays between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. to get ready for exams. Also check out our list of top 20 study spaces for a spot that fits your needs! https://www.su.ucalgary.ca/study-space

De-Stress Kits

Your SU Exec will also be handing out de-stress kits all over campus during the exam period so make sure to keep an eye out! If you don’t run into them while you’re studying, follow us on twitter @SUUofC for updates on their location, or drop by the SU office after April 17 to pick up a kit (hurry, supplies are limited!).

Lockers FYI

Make sure you clean out your locker by 10 p.m. on April 28 (even if you have a spring locker). If you leave anything behind please visit https://www.su.ucalgary.ca/lockers/ to find out how to retrieve your stuff. If you need a locker for the spring or summer semesters, lockers are available on the Student Centre now!

Make Money off your Textbooks!

If you need to get rid of some of those textbooks from your locker – consign them and make some money! Bring them to the north courtyard (outside Stor) in MacHall on weekdays from April 13 to 28 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. https://www.su.ucalgary.ca/bound-copied/

Crazy to think the year is over. It’s been an exciting time to be a part of the SU and I’ve been honoured to be your SU President and the voice of students. The SU is also supported by an immense support team filled with our talented staff, countless volunteers, and of course your faculty representatives and executives. I want to thank them all for the dedication and passion they bring every day making the U of C a better place for students.

Finally, to the undergraduates of the U of C – thank you for putting your trust in me during such an exciting time. The support we’ve received from students this year has been exceptional. I know the next president and 75th executive is going to represent you well next year. I hope you place the same trust and support in them as you have in us this year!

Signing off for the last time,

Stephan Guscott,
President, The Students’ Union
