Hey U of C – This is your U of C Students’ Union President with a few thoughts before we finish out what has been a fantastic year. I know it’s a busy time of the year for all of us as we approach the end of the term, but there are just a couple final messages and information we want to get to you before exams begin:

Now, in case you haven’t heard – this year BSD is on Wednesday, Apr. 15. As you know, you need to get a wristband in advance to get in. Wristbands are available this Thursday and Friday, Apr. 9-10, and next week on Monday and Tuesday, Apr. 13-14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the North Courtyard of MacEwan Student Centre. Remember to bring your student ID and government-issued photo ID. Wristbands will NOT be available on Bermuda Shorts Day (Apr. 15).  The countdown is on! See you in Lot 32 – gates open at 11:30 a.m. Check out performances by DJ Astronaut Cult, Kytami, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, and Smalltown DJs with Master of Ceremonies Jett Thunders. For more information on BSD go to our BSD webpage.

A key focus of BSD this year is the safety of all who participate.  If you do plan to drink – Be a Smart Drinker and remember to plan your day, which includes planning a safe way to get home – whether it’s designated drivers, Calgary transit or taxi cabs that will be available near the BSD site. We are pleased to partner with Calgary Police Services, Emergency Medical Services and a large contingent of campus security personnel to ensure a safe environment for this year-end celebration. Remember your university ID and use your U-Pass to ride Calgary Transit. For more tips on Being a Safe Drinker click here.

For more information on the university’s ucalgarystrong Festival happening the same day visit the event page here.

As you start to get ready for exams we’ve got you covered. Weekdays from Apr. 20-28, we’ve designated That Empty Space as That Empty STUDY Space – just for you. It’s a quiet place where you can come anytime during the weekdays between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. to get ready for exams.

As well, keep your eyes open during exam period for the VP Student Life and VP Operations & Finance. They will be out all over campus handing out de-stress kits to help you get through finals. If you don’t run into them while you’re studying, follow us on twitter @SUUofC for updates on their location, or drop by the SU office after Apr. 16 to pick up a kit (hurry, supplies are limited!).

If you’re one of the 6,000 people who have a locker, I want to remind you that by 10 p.m. on Apr. 29 you must take out all of your stuff. To find out how to retrieve anything that you leave behind, click here for more info.

Everyone must clean out their locker, even if you’ve rented the same locker for the spring semester.  If you need a locker for the spring or summer semesters, lockers are available on the Student Centre now!

If you need to get rid of some of those textbooks from your locker – consign them and make some money! Bring them to the north courtyard (outside Stor) in MacHall on weekdays from Apr. 16 to 30 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

I can’t believe the year is over, and what an amazing and fulfilling year it’s been. Thanks to my executive colleagues, Levi Nilson, VP External; Jonah Ardiel, VP Student Life; Adam Swertz, VP Operations and Finance; and Hana Kadri, (former) VP Academic, our SU continues to be a positive role model for other student unions in the country – a testament to the innovation and skills of these exceptional student leaders. Supported by a professional and talented staff, countless volunteers and faculty representatives dedicated to the well-being of students in their faculties, I am endlessly proud to say I was a member of the 72nd SLC.

Finally, to the undergraduates of U of C – thank you! It has been the greatest honour to serve as your SU president. I know you’re in good hands with the 73rd Students’ Union President and Executive.

President, The Students’ Union,
The University of Calgary
