PrintHey UCalgary!

I can’t believe how fast September flew by! If I haven’t met you yet, I’m Branden Cave your SU President, here with another short email to help keep you up to speed on what’s happening around campus!

Did you know there’s a municipal election looming and we’re running a gigantic Get Out The Vote campaign? Pledge to vote today at www.su.ucalgary.ca/gotv/ to show City Council that student issues matter! You can also win a MacBook Air and other awesome prizes.

The city is hosting a multi-ward advanced vote station on campus – this means you can vote anytime between Oct. 4 and 11 (excluding weekends and stat holidays) in the TFDL! Not sure what kind of ID you need to bring? Check out www.calgary.ca/election/Pages/information-for-voters/identification-requirements.aspx for more details.

Speaking of elections, the SU is having a By-Election to fill several vacancies on our student council. Voting days for the By-Election are Oct. 11, 12, and 13. You can vote online from your student centre or in person at polling stations in MacHall’s North Courtyard or in the Professional Faculties link from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More info on candidates, their platforms, and the By-Election itself can be found here: www.su.ucalgary.ca/about/elections/by-election-2017/

What are you doing on Monday night? Did you know that the Den has board games, free movies (with popcorn), and bingo to help you ease into the beginning of the week?  Movies start at 7 p.m. and you can find out what is showing by checking our events calendar: www.facebook.com/pg/DenBlackLounge/events/

Do you have a professor who makes going to class a magical experience? If so, you should nominate them for a Teaching Excellence Award! It’s easy: just complete the short online form here: https://www.su.ucalgary.ca/tea/. The nomination deadline for Fall 2017 semester is Oct. 27.

Have you spent some time in the lab and made a unique discovery? Will your critical analysis lead to positive social change? Share your accomplishments at the 2017 Undergraduate Research Symposium for the chance to win a scholarship. Abstracts are due Oct. 25 at 4:30 p.m. For more information visit: www.su.ucalgary.ca/urs

And finally: if you missed this year’s SU O-Week video [ https://youtu.be/t5-_L9IktM4 ], give it a look! I hope it inspires you to get involved on campus this year!

There’s always more going on than what I can fit into an email, so to stay up to date, just join the conversation on social media:
