Binge eating, binge watching shows on Netflix, and for some people – binge cleaning – is what happens when exam time rolls around!
Exam Time: We can easily call it the worst time of the year. The only good thing about exam time is that in one or two weeks – you’ve reached the end of the semester!!!
You did it! You finished all those assignments, group projects, midterms and papers! You deserve to be pampered, you deserve to relax and most importantly you deserve to be proud that you made it through another rough semester!
Motivation is always the hardest to find while you are in your 3rd, 4th, 5th or higher year of education but just remember how much you’ve achieved over the past few years and you can’t stop now! It only gets better from here.
The end of the winter semester means spring is right around the corner (but you never really know with Calgary). Spring and summer are a time for some students to do nothing for four months until the fall semester. Those kids are the ones I call the “lucky but lazy” ones! Don’t just waste your time playing PS3 games, watching Netflix and doing nothing with your time. Time is a gift and you need to use it wisely – if you’re a higher year student, you know what I’m talking about!
Use this time to travel, do something new, and take fun classes like dancing or cooking. Remember those people in your home that you barely saw this semester due to all of your extracurricular activities, work, school and social life? Yeah, your family! Spend some time with them, they could turn out to be really cool people.
For those who are working, take this break from school as a chance to get organized. Maybe join a gym and lose that weight we all gain during exam time and feel better! Join a book club (it doesn’t mean you’re old or boring – maybe you’ll realize how much you love talking about your favourite books!). We have aftershows for reality TV (The Hills, Big Brother etc.), why not have an “aftershow” type meeting about a book!
If you’re planning a huge vacation and travelling this summer – make the most of it. Do everything you ever wanted to do (within reason of course). Make new friends while you travel, sightsee and take it all in! Traveling is not always easy for everyone, consider yourself lucky!
Exam time sucks, that’s the reality. The only way to get through it is to ensure you stay positive and look to the future! Congratulations on making it this far, and always remember there is light at the end of the tunnel! University is a great place to figure out what to do with your life, but don’t ever lose sight of who you really are.
For those graduating this year, congratulations, you did it! Getting a degree is not easy, have fun and don’t take life too seriously. Enjoy it!
For those who aren’t graduating just yet – your time will come! It’ll be worth the wait. Think about how sweet it will be to be at the end and starting a new chapter.
