Federal Election, MacHall, and Great Teachers

PrintHey U of C!

There are some incredibly important things happening on campus right now. The federal election is happening and your SU is working hard to make sure as many university students get out to vote as possible! There are advanced polling stations on campus right now until Oct. 8, where you can go and cast your ballot. This is going to be one of the closest elections in history so make sure you have a say in it! If you aren’t planning to vote until election day on Oct. 19, make sure you sign a pledge to vote and one of our volunteers will give you a call and help find your polling station on election day! More information is available on out GOTV page.

And in other important news, your SU is working hard to ensure students remain owners of MacHall. If you want any more information about the ownership dispute, we’ve compiled a ton of information as well as all the recent media surrounding the dispute at  MyMacHall.com. As well, the SU’s VP Operations and Finance Sarah Pousette has a post on our website describing some of the ways student ownership of MacHall impacts you. We will continue to work hard to ensure that students’ investment in MacHall is properly recognized.

If you’ve got a great professor, instructor, or TA make sure you nominate them for a Teaching Excellence Award! One of the best ways we can work to improve the quality of teaching on campus is to recognize those who go above and beyond and really make our education incredible. The SU Teaching Excellence Awards is the only campus-wide recognition program for those instructors who make a long-lasting impact on students. The Nomination deadline for Fall 2015 semester is Friday, October 30th. Click here for a link to the nomination form.

Have you spent your summer in the lab and made a unique discovery? Will your burning question lead to a cool new invention? Share your accomplishments at the 2015 Undergraduate Research Symposium. Abstracts are due Oct. 21 at 4:30 p.m. For more information visit our URS webpage.

Lastly, congrats to the newest member of the Students’ Legislative Council (SLC).  We’re thrilled to welcome Erik Burow for the Faculty of Vet Med. I can’t wait to see what he can do for the students at Spyhill!
