Happy students, happy semester!

As this year comes to an end, there’s no better way to spend the last few weeks thinking to make the next year better. One of my New Year’s resolutions is to make my next semester a happier one.

I’ve been doing a lot of research on the basics of happiness and here’s a list of what I’m going to try out for myself:

As students, we all know the struggle of going to class. Here’s a tip to make it better: MAKE FRIENDS IN YOUR LECTURES! Have something to look forward to everyday when you go to school. Sometimes it’s hard and overwhelming to make new friends especially in big classes but it could be as simple as talking to the person next to us. You never know, they might become your super smart study-buddy.

Next on my list is to SURROUND MYSELF WITH POSITIVE PEOPLE! There’s nothing more uplifting than to be with people who are genuinely happy. Positive people also lead to positive thoughts. Sometimes it’s easy to think of the worst case scenarios but we must remember that there’s always a rainbow after the rain! ☺

Another good one that I’m guilty of not doing is to EXERCISE. It has been proven that exercising releases happy chemicals in your brain! It also boosts your mood, so you become a less cranky student! Next time you’re feeling blue, just get up and do some squats or something.

Adding to the positivity would be to GIVE BACK TO OTHERS! Get involved at school, there’s a lot of volunteer opportunities around campus. If you don’t know where to start, here’s a quick link to the SU’s Volunteer Services. Giving back and helping people makes us feel better about ourselves! Seeing the smiling faces of those we’ve touched will surely make our day.

5. TREAT myself

As much as helping others makes us feel accomplished and happy, we should also TREAT OURSELVES once in a while! Reward yourself for being a good student and go out for ice cream, shop like there’s no tomorrow, or anything your heart desires.

Last but certainly not the least is to SMILE. Smiling is contagious, you never know, you might be making someone’s day with that smile of yours! Let’s remember that happy students = happy semester. Spread the happiness around because we all know “the more, the merrier”! Bob Marley could not have said it any better…

Kim is a third year accounting student who loves volunteering and always down for food. Her actual career passion is to become a panda cuddler. She believes that in life, “If it’s meant to be, it’s up to me!”
