Results announced for 2016 SU General Election

New SU Executive and other officials to be sworn in April 28th  

After weeks of campaigning and candidate forums, undergraduate students at the University of Calgary have elected a new slate of student leaders for 2016-2017. Stephan Guscott is the new President-elect, capturing 48 percent of votes. Guscott served as the Vice President, Academic for the SU in 2015-2016. The new Vice President, External will be Tristan Bray, who had 54 percent of the vote.  Patrick Ma will be the new Vice President, Student Life, garnering 32 percent of the vote. Alicia Lunz and Branden Cave were acclaimed in their roles of Vice President, Academic and Vice President, Operations and Finance respectively.

The two Senate representative positions will be filled by Julie Le and Kyle Schole who captured 43 percent and 31 percent of the votes respectively. Shubir Shaikh was acclaimed as the Board of Governors representative. The position of Faculty Representative Social Work remains vacant. Vacant positions are filled during the Students’ Union’s annual By-Election in October.

Voter turn-out this year decreased by 0.7 percent to 24.7 percent of eligible student voters with 6,018 students casting a ballot. These results become official on Mar. 14, 2016.

Newly elected officials will be sworn into office on Thursday, Apr. 28, 2016 at the annual Students’ Union’s Colour Night ceremony. Over the summer months, this new team of capable young leaders will be engaged in strategic planning to take the Students’ Union into the 2016 fall semester.

The Students’ Legislative Council (SLC) also consists of 19 faculty representatives.  The number of faculty representatives sitting on SLC corresponds with the number of students in a given faculty. Five faculty representative positions were won through acclamation.  The following faculty representatives will serve on The 74th Students’ Legislative Council.
