New Vice President and Faculty Reps – By-Election 2018

The results of the SU By-Election were announced at the end of the day on Friday. Two positions were open going into this week’s vote. Students elected Anayat Sidhu as their new Vice President, External, a position that has been vacant since the previous Vice President resigned in April. Sidhu captured 66 percent of the vote.

Students at the Schulich School of Engineering also elected Ioana Rontu to the Students’ Legislative Council as one of their two representatives. Ioana garnered 35 percent of the vote in this four-person race. They will join Ahsen Imran, who was elected in the SU’s General Election this past March.

In addition, the Chief Returning Officers declared Tina Miller acclaimed to the position of Faculty Representative, Werklund School of Education. Miller was the SU’s Vice President, Academic last year and will bring her considerable experience with her to this new role.

“I would like to congratulate Anayat, Ioana, and Tina for their commitment to stepping up to represent their fellow students on SLC,” said Sagar Grewal, SU President. “We welcome their views and ideas and look forward to working with them.”

Voter turn-out was 4.63 percent of eligible student voters with 1,216 students casting a ballot. These results become official on Oct. 22, 2018.
