The online application opens Wednesday, August 16 at 8:30am and closes Friday, September 29 at 4:30pm. The application page will time out after 90 minutes. We suggest you review the questions and draft your answers in a separate document, then log in again and submit your application.

You will receive an email notification when your application is successfully received. If you do not receive this confirmation email, please resubmit the application form in under 90 minutes. Thank you for your understanding.

URS is operating in a hybrid format this year – selected participants will submit a 5-minute video presentation and selected winners will be invited to present on their research further in-person at a Poster Symposium.

  • The video must not exceed 5 minutes and must be done by the person submitting the application.

If you completed traditional experimental-based research, your video should contain the following elements:

    • Short title
    • Hypothesis
    • Theory
    • Methods
    • Analysis
    • Conclusions
    • References
    • Acknowledgements (if applicable)

If you are presenting research-in-progress, a literature review, research paper, text-based, or alternative research, your video will likely contain the following elements (or some version thereof):

    • Short title
    • Research Question or Objectives
    • Background
    • Approach
    • Results
    • Next steps or future direction
    • References
    • Acknowledgements (if applicable)

Participants are judged on both their video and the clarity of their explanation. Videos must be submitted by 4:30PM, October 27. Late or over-time-limit submissions will not be accepted.

    Get creative and have fun!

  • Your video will be judged between November 1 – 8. Participants will not be able to speak with their judges, so it is important that the video is clear. Judging criteria has been updated to reflect these changes.

Research presentations will be published and promoted publicly from November 20 – 23 on social media. Participants are encouraged to share their research with fellow students by sharing the video link and inviting them to attend the URS Workshops and Poster Symposium on November 22 – 23.

Awards will be posted online on Wednesday, November 22 and announced in-person during our events on Wednesday, November 22 and Thursday, November 23.
