Tina Miller is extremely excited to serve as the SU VP Academic and to represent you! She was born and raised in Calgary as part of a family of five. She is currently in her fifth year of a degree in Biological Sciences. Upon entering university, Tina was interested in the sciences and discovering how the world works, but she was unsure of her career path and future goals.
Throughout her time at the university she has been involved with the Leadership and Student Engagement Office; it is here that she first found a community on campus. Tina has been a part of Camp LEAD, the Sophomore Leadership Program, and Orientation Week. She also had the opportunity to travel and work on social justice issues by participating in the ucalgarycares program – she travelled to New Orleans and later led a group of first year students to Toronto.
Tina has developed an interest in philanthropy and volunteerism both on campus and in the community. She has worked at Youth Central for four years, engaging youth in non-profit work in Calgary. Tina also enjoys sharing her love of science with children of all ages, and has worked at summer camps and led outreach workshops in schools. In the future, she hopes to become a high school biology teacher and to inspire future generations of scientists.
She is also passionate about the fine arts, and she is the happiest when she is singing, dancing, or acting. Consequently, she is prone to spontaneously breaking out into song and dance.
Tina has served on the SU as the Faculty of Science representative for the past year, and is excited to further her newfound passion for student politics. Her goal this year is to increase the accessibility of academic resources to ensure that students are supported and can achieve success, whatever that looks like for them. She truly believes that a strong academic support system can serve as a springboard to future opportunities and enhance the student experience. Tina wishes you all the best in your academic endeavors and encourages you to reach out.
