Calgary, AB – October 25, 2017 – The Students’ Legislative Council (SLC) appointed a new Vice President External last night. Puncham Judge, who was elected to the SLC as a Faculty of Arts Representative this past March, will take over the role effective immediately. The appointment of a new VP External was necessary after the resignation of Shubir Shaikh earlier this semester.

“I am very happy to have Puncham join the SU 75th Executive,” said SU President Branden Cave. “Puncham brings a number of great qualities to this position and will be a great asset to our team as we move forward in representing and serving students.”

Prior to her term as Arts Representative Judge was a Legal Assistant at Nelson & Nelson Solicitors and Barristers, a Delegate Representative with the World Federation of United Nations Associations and a Customer Service Representative with the Punjab Milk Foods-Nanak. She has volunteered extensively in the Calgary community, most recently with the Calgary Bridge Foundation working with immigrant and refugee youth.

“I’m very pleased to take on the role of VP External,” said Judge. “I’m comfortable with Shubir’s priorities for the year and am excited to continue to work on them. I recognize there is a lot I need to learn but I’m confident that with the help of the other executives and support from the whole SU team I can get up to speed quickly.”

Judge will continue to work on the priorities set out by Shaikh in the Executive’s Annual Operating Plan including working with the Council of Alberta University Students and the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations to ensure that post-secondary education is accessible and affordable.
