U of C Pulls Den Liquor License for BSD

The U of C has pulled the liquor license from the Den for BSD, so unfortunately, the SU cannot open the Den for BSD ( but the Den will reopen, fully licensed, on Thursday, April 14).

The SU was told by the university today that the liquor license would be pulled because they feared ‘student migratory pathways.’ The Den and the SU have gone to great lengths to ensure the security of all patrons visiting the Den and has always hired additional security and safety personnel during BSD. The SU has managed the Den for more than 45 years and is proud of the incredible track record in safety with AGLC, Calgary Fire Department, and Calgary Police Service. The Den is Best Bar None Certified and won an award as the Best Student Bar last year. The SU is confident that all of the Den’s security measures and entrance policies would ensure a safe environment for students and that the Den would be a great fun alternative for students on the last day of classes and contribute to a fun atmosphere on campus.

Historically the Den was always been open on BSD and with the recent renovations, has become much more than a place people just go to on Thursday nights. It’s a campus tradition that won’t be part of BSD this year.
