Welcome Back UCalgary Students!
Welcome back UCalgary students!
It’s been a busy beginning to the fall semester for the Students’ Union, and if I haven’t met you yet, I’m Sagar Grewal your SU President. You’ll receive these emails every few weeks throughout the year filled with key details to keep you up to speed!
First off, learn more about the SU and what we do for you. Join us for a town hall on September 12 at 11:30 AM in the South Courtyard in Mac Hall! Meet your 76th Executives and learn about their initiatives for this year.
Want to get involved on campus but don’t know how? Check out Clubs Week September 17-21 in Mac Hall. Hundreds of clubs will each have a table. My advice: join at least one! Meet some new friends and enrich your student experience. Follow SU Clubs on Facebook and Instagram for more info! Or click here.
Are you looking to get involved with the SU? You should consider joining one of our committees or the President’s Consultative Task Force (PCTF). These are all great opportunities for you to assist SU elected officials in their decision-making and will give you resume-worthy experience in organizational governance. For more information, click here (for committees) or here (for the PCTF). The deadline to apply for committees is September 13 and for the PCTF is September 28.
There are still lockers available on campus! If you need a place to store your books this semester, get a locker from your SU. Log into your Student Centre to reserve yours today.
Are you covered under your parent’s health and dental plan? If so, you should opt-out of the SU’s health and dental plan which you pay into automatically when you register at the University of Calgary. Note that you only need to opt-out once during your university career. The deadline to opt-out is September 21 and you can do so by clicking here.
Are you a leader in the campus community? Would you like to be? The SU is encouraging students of all backgrounds, ages, genders and areas of study to run in the upcoming SU By-Election. More information, including important deadlines and available positions, is available here.
How do we get politicians to listen to students and act on what we want? It starts with showing them that students vote. Your SU just launched a massive Get Out the Vote campaign and we need your help! We need every student to sign up so that we can contact you with voting information during the next provincial election.
Mac Hall is the center of student life on campus, but it’s getting older and we want you to have your say in the future of the building! Take our survey and you could even win some awesome prizes! Survey closes September 27.
Can’t make it through the week without a taco? We’ve got you covered with La Taqueria, the best place for fresh and affordable Mexican-inspired food on campus. Now accepting the Unicard! Visit us in Mac Hall.
Finally, you won’t want to miss tomorrow’s Kickoff football game when our Dinos face off against the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. UCalgary students get in free! There’s also a free BBQ and tailgate party in the McMahon Stadium parking lot starting at 3:30 PM, presented by your SU!
I hope your first couple days have been a blast! If you have any problems on campus feel free to come to the SU offices or contact your faculty representative and we’ll help you out! See you around Mac Hall!
